Why i wana let other ppl laugh at my weird traits ah?

*shrug* i oso dunno why im doing this and risking social suicide. Haha but here goes! =p

"Each player of this game starts off by giving 6 weird things about themselves. People who get tagged need to write in a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state the rules clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. After you do that, leave them each a comment letting them know you tagged them and to read your blog."

1. I love potatoes. Cooked in ANY WAY: boiled (potatoe sup), baked (jacket potatoe), fried ( french fries, hashbrowns), mashed potatoes, potatoe salad, bbq-ed potatoe, potatoe chips, and if they ever decide to invent such a thing as POTATOE ICE CREAM i would probably be their 1st fan.

**Oh btw, since we are already on the potatoe topic, even tho this is totaly unrelated to the tag, this cny, i discovered the joys of a chinese tidbit. Aiyak..forgot the chinese name for it, but in english the plant is called arrow head (i think). Its glorious, they cut the potatoe-like-vege into ultra thin slices and deep fry it to golden perfection. *crack* Mmmmm.... where have you been all my life? I cant believe it, all this time, i never knew about it! If anybody's house got leftover arrow head chips tell me k? i make special guest star appereance at ur home.**

2. I enjoy wrapping books. When we were still in school, i wrap all my sister's books, till once when i had no more books to wrap, i was tempted to offer them money to let me wrap their books. There is just something so satisfying about tugging and pulling at the wrapper till it sticks like second skin to the book cover, and hold the silky smooth finished product in your arms.

3. I've yet to see another girl's room as messier than mine. Seriously, if you've ever got a chance to see my room and it was 'decent looking', dont for one minute be fooled and think that it was the normal state of my room. It's either i knew somebody was coming to visit and i cleaned it up (read: pushed and chucked everything into any space that would allow) OR Lesley came over and did her complusory " Denise! How can u breath in this place? *starts to clean* *clean* *clean*" routine.

4. I cant side park a car *endless sob*

5. I read the ending of the books before i buy them. Super spoiler i know, but i just gota see if it is drama enough for me to spend that much time reading the other 894752309485029pages in front.

6. I like getting tagged on other ppl's blogs. Cos it saves my blog from extinction.

AND i would like to tag.. *cheng cheng* this is the fun part =p

1.Lesley AND Rachel ------> even tho i know ALL your weird traits redy, now i want the WORLD to know how weird my sisters really are. muahahahahahaaha * lightning flash*

2,3,4,5 & 6. Thats all wor, dont need to know other ppl's weird traits cos i'm only cruel to my sisters. And also they are the only ones i can blackmail mah =p

ps: special thanks to Angelene for letting me in on the big tip: that the laundry aunty at VistaB club house sells my precious arrow head for cny! i love you i love you i love you i love you i love you i do!

Subject: Beauty

We are allowed to write song's like this?
wow... i admire the bravery and honesty. But i think this song is not only dedicated to any One person in particular. It's not for us to point fingers at others or shake our heads. It is also talking to us. Asking...

Have we grew too numb till we forgot?

Honestly...
What do we DO when we read about/ see homeless people on the street?
Who do we PRAY for before we go to sleep?
Do we even pray anymore?
Do we really, truely care about them like they were our own mothers, sisters, granparents or children?

Dear Mr. President"(feat. Indigo Girls)

Lyrics:

Dear Mr. President
Come take a walk with me
Let's pretend we're just two people and
You're not better than me
I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly

What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep
What do you feel when you look in the mirror
Are you proud

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye
How do you walk with your head held high
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why

Dear Mr. President
Were you a lonely boy
Are you a lonely boy
Are you a lonely boy
How can you say
No child is left behind
We're not dumb and we're not blind
They're all sitting in your cells
While you pave the road to hell

What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye
How do you walk with your head held high
Can you even look me in the eye

Let me tell you bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don't know nothing bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh

How do you sleep at night
How do you walk with your head held high
Dear Mr. President
You'd never take a walk with me
Would you

I dont need to put up pictures here to show you what the artist is talking about, cos im almost certain that most of us already have those images imprinted somewhere at the back of our minds.

"When i can put my head down on my pillow at night, and truely say that i've been a decent person today, THAT is beauty." ~Drew Barrymoore~

Happy Frielentine

Abit the late but...

Happy Valentine's to all you couples out there!
&
Happy Frielentine to my fellow single comrades!
Hehe..actually to tell the truth, i rather enjoyed this valentine's. Of course there was no romatic dinner or bouquet of insanely priced flowers or elaborate gifts. But it was fun never the less. Here is wat I did ( if u have the slightest interest =p):
WOKE UP at 7.30am and marched myself to the library. Yes siree, the nerd mode is back. I noticed tho as i was walking frm vista to imu that ALOT of people were wearing black that valentine's morning.haha found it a lil strange cos trafficlight-red and toothdecaysweet-pink was the usual colours valentine days called for no? Anyways productively finished ONE respi lecture note the whole morning ( but nevertheless still satisfied with myself) and waited for lunch!
LUNCH was spent wit peeps from the imu CG at Taste Walking/Fusion Heaven (which name now? im getting confused). And we celebrated Valene's bday there too! A Valentine baby named Valene who is as sweet as a flower! how appropriate =)
MISSED the 1st lecture by Reddy cos the food took some time to arrive, but strangely i didnt mind at all. Actually, it is VERY strange why i was so happy that day, hmmm....
ARRIVED in time for the 2nd lecture, but there was a great air of excitement in the lecture hall even as Mala Maung gave her lecture (poor dear, promise to pay more attn next time) cos everyone was busy looking out at who got wat flowers from whom. haha...so cute felt just like high skool again =) oh, and even got lil gifts frm friends, ahhh! so happy.
EVENING DESSERT for me,pei, angie, xan, geoff and chris was at the lil shop next to OUG (aiyak forgot the name). Tried to con xan into ordering the 'Ice Fruitty Loh' cos that was what i ordered the last time and everybody laughed at me cos it was basically frozen plain water, some fruits and cincau. Aiya..but she too smart ler =p oOoOohh... and as we were having dessert we saw men marching out proudly of the shopping complex with their bouquets of flowers CLEARLY for some sweet lady they've been thinking of the whole day. *happy sigh* i just thot the scene was a very i dunno... movie-like-material? Of course i know there is more to life than romance and i should use my head more than my 6yearold daydreams but still....*happy sigh* =p
5.30-7ISH was spent at CF. Though it was a short session, i learnt so much for the message that day. Thank you!
THE ROMATIC DINNER was a burger ayam spesial bungkus-ed and eaten in the comfort of my aparment reading the papers. Oh, and there was this really sweet article in the star about an elderly couple, but I can remember their names (sigh wats wit me and remembering important things ah). Will go dig out the article again tmr.
Yeapo...That was my happy Frielentine.
OH! but post-valentine was fun too. Cos after valentine's, it is quite certain that most people will update their blogs wan, so thats thats the perfect time for me to go online and stalk people's blog and find out what they did for valentine's. haha stalking is fun!
ps: aiyo...dunno wats wrong with my blogger, when i try and post they squeeze all my paragraphs together, hence the congested look today.

Just a passing thought.

It just occured to me that the holidays are coming to an end....
NoOoOooOoooOoooOoooooOoOOOoooo!
gimmie back, gimmie back more time to be a pig, gimmie more time to "talk" about studying instead of actually doing it, gimmie more time before the dooms of EOS, gimmie more time before i call myself a sem3 student.
hehe...

Artistic Genes

It runs in the family you know, this business of being an artistic genius.

Lesley msged me, asking me if i knew any nice msg's to send to a friend. So i sent her my own Denise-written-oneofakind-limitededition-alloccasion- poem:

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
You are so sweet,
Almost as sweet as Denise the magnificent.

(the ending part doesnt REALLY rhyme, but i thot sweeT and magnificenT both got T so can use together)

~written by Suyin (me)~
~dedicated to all who would not kick me after reading this~

I guess for some reason she didnt use my poem, and instead, half an hour later sent me this:

Friends for life,
They never stray,
Brightening our day,
Wiping all the frustration away,
Even when we fall,
Or sometimes feel so small,
They bubble lil smiles in our skies,
With their silent lullabies,
Bringing us back once more,
To our fairtale world before,
Where princes & princess flew at night,
In the sky where clouds are fleecy white,
Where baby fairies covered with lace,
Munching honey cookies till very late, <---------------- I especially like this part!
And when all has dimmed... before the day starts again,
Together they watch,
The sunrise in the golden lane...
Oh how precious those memories were to me,
My friend for now & forever will be...

~written by Suwen (my sis)~
~dedicated specially to her close friend Siew Ying~

WaAaAaAaAaaah...........
Seriously almost as good as my poem leh *salute* =p

Example of a non-compliant patient.

Oh uh...dentist going to scold me AGAIN.

Poor doc, she is wonderfull dentist but has been trying to get me to wear the elastic bands for my braces for the past dunno how many months ready. Its not that i purposely dont want to to wear wan, its just.... its just...just very easy to forget la.

Our standard conversation for the past 5 check ups:

Doctor: " Denise ah, i told you ady ah..must wear your elastics deligently wan. See, the gap from 3mm become 4 mm already, how to continue if the gap still so big? (err... ignore this last part if you dont have braces or dont understand dentist-talk)"

Denise: *muffled noises with all the orthodontic equipment still in her mouth*

Doctor: Ahh...you come back in 1months time, and i this time i will have a special method of checking if you wore the elastics ah. So you better wear them k?

Denise: *nodnodnodnod*

Oh uh... so once again,my 1 month is up ady.

*GASP* i just had a scary revelation: what if i end up wearing braces for the rest of my life?! *GASP*

ps: next time you catch me eating or talking witout my elastics please knock me on the head (HARD) and hand me a picture of a 60year old grandmother still with her braces? You would be doing me and my future husband a great favour, thank you.

Cant seem to come up with a title today

Just called about my CVS results.
SOMEBODY weep with me?

On the other hand,

Didnt realise eCard websites actually had some pretty interesting stories:

Storm Child.

A little girl walked daily to and from school. Though the weather that morning was questionable and clouds were forming, she made her daily trek to the elementary school. As the afternoon progressed, the winds whipped up, along with thunder and lightning. The mother of the little girl felt concerned that her daughter would be frightened as she walked home from school, and she herself feared that the electrical storm might harm her child.

Following the roar of thunder, lightning, like a flaming sword, would cut through the sky. Full of concern, the mother quickly got into her car and drove along the route to her child's school. As she did so, she saw her little girl walking along, but at each flash of lightning, the child would stop, look and smile. Another and another were to follow quickly, each with the little girl stopping, looking at the streak of light and smiling.
Finally, the mother called her over to the car and asked, "What are you doing?" The child answered, "God just keeps taking pictures of me,"

Lord, help me to trust You as much as this little one, especially when the storms of life crash around me.

Mr.Tan

Today is my father's a.k.a Pa's birthday!

Yerps, Mr.Tan is turning 49 this year. And i must admit, he doenst look half his age =P
But Pa, the reading glasses is cramping your style just abit ler hehe...

So just like many of his past birthdays, he woke up at 7am this morning, did some weird excercise like movements in the front porch, woke the lazybums up *points at Les and Rachel*, went out to buy breakfast and is now downstairs reading his book. No celebrations, no elaborate lunches or dinners, not even a birthday cake. And thats how he likes it.

Once when i asked him why he didnt buy us birthday cakes on our birthdays anymore (half hinting my 15th bday which was a few months away =p), he told us that birthday celebrations were for when we were little. And that as we grew up and understood the world and our purpose in it more, birthdays were yearly wake up calls. It is the time of year when we sit and reflect on ourselves. What have we done with the 49 or 20 years granted to us on earth? What have we done to enrich the world with our presence? What have we said to help another life live better? And only if and when we realise we have done enough (which i never have on my yearly wake up calls) then we have a reason to celebrate.

Haha...kind of a party-pooper eh? There are alot more un-conventional things about my Pa that i adore. Some who meet my Pa think that he is really quiet and a lil too strict. And he is! But if you are preveilaged enough to listen to a few of his ideas and arguements, you would agree with me that the world needs more people like him.

Mr.Tan 101:
-Apricotts
-Elephants
-Missions
-Reading ( books are the greatest friends cos they teach you selflessly and cant scold you if you neglect them for awhile)
-Children (tho they are kinda intimidated by him at times)
-Magic tricks ( to overcome the intimidation factor)
-Backpacking
-Perfect block writing (all round-round wan like donuts)
-Pork knuckels (tsk tsk)
-cooks with the simplest ingredients ( spagetti in duck sauce, spagetti in tomato sauce, spagetti in dark sauce)
-people watching ( he likes studying the characters of different people.Carefull, me and sis already become specimens)
-admires patience
-On talking (Only speak when your actions fail to convey your intentions. If you have nothing good to say, dont say it)
-On shopping ( Once the size fits, buy 5 of the same set.Need more variety? Buy 5 of the same set of different colours then)
-5 minutes rule ( if u spend more than 5 minutes infront of the mirror doing your hair, something is wrong witht the hair cut)
-10 minutes rule ( if you spend more than 10 minutes bathing, get a new shower head)
-15minutes rule ( if you spend more that 15 minutes on meals, you are wasting ur time)
-has 3 daughters who adore him.

Thats my dad, not the conventional kind of fathers but special nontheless.

Anyways Pa, you dont read my blog (at least i dont THINK you do, and scrolling back at my posts i hope you dont =P). But i think its time somebody celebrated your birthday because you HAVE done something to enrich the world when you gave up our time to help in missions, you HAVE said someting to help another life live better when you believed in your daughter, enough to help her gain her own confidence in herself.

Happy Birthday!

Flashback: There is only ONE SINGLE memory i have of him buying a birthday cake for his own birthday. We were still very young back then and my mom couldnt be home to celebrate his bday so Lesley and i were pretty bummed cos having so little birthdays of our own, we thot is was supposed to be a big thing that Pa was finally getting his birthday too. So we hintted and begged him to get a cake which turned out to be the size of a slightly larger muffin. And both of us wanted our pic taken with the birthday boy so Pa had to blow the candles out twice while short stubby fingers snapped blurry-sengeted photograhps. Aww....

See a need, meet a need.

What do you do when you read articles or see pictures of people in need? take a few minutes to sigh? a few minutes to feel sorry for them? a few minutes to hope things will change and life will treat them better in the near future?

And then you turn the page to read about the next headline?

I have been guilty of this a countless of times.
Always thinking that as a money-less, experience-less, mature-less, young GIRL, whatever help i could ever offer would be rather meaningless and that there are others out there who could do a much better job than me. But if every young person out there were to think like that, noting great would ever have been acomplished.

That is why i loved the slogan "See a need, meet a need" that the folks in DUMC use. When you see a need, do everything within your power to meet it. It doesnt matter if you dont THINK you are capable enough, if you dont THINK you are qualified enough. If God has called us to do His work for His people, and we make ourselves available to Him, who are we to doubt that he will not give us everything we need to do the work well?

So dont just turn pages anymore k?
Do something : go, or pray =)
